Why have lithium batteries been slow to replace lead-acid batteries

As we all know, big brand lithium battery manufacturers, the safety factor of the product is relatively high, but the price is also relatively high. And some small manufacturers of lithium battery products are cheaper, but less safe. Recently, there have been many incidents of lithium battery catching fire, including the frequent fires of the large enterprise Tesla, which makes people think about the safety of lithium battery again.

Compared with lead-acid batteries, lithium-acid batteries have advantages such as high energy density, long life, small size and light weight. Several years ago, some people said that lead-acid batteries would be replaced by lithium batteries. Yet many years on, lead-acid batteries are still the dominant market. So what are the main obstacles to lithium batteries replacing lead-acid batteries?

Since there are so many advantages of lithium batteries, why can't lithium batteries replace lead-acid batteries?

First, lithium battery price performance advantage is not outstanding.

According to many dealers of lithium trams, the price of lithium batteries is 1.5-2.5 times that of lead-acid batteries, but the service life is not much better, and the repair rate is very high.

Second, the repair time is too long to seriously restrict the use of consumers.

Once the failure of lithium battery is repaired, it will take about a week, or even longer, so that consumers are impatient and lose their confidence in use. The reason is that dealers cannot repair or replace the faulty cells inside lithium batteries, so they must be sent to the manufacturers by express delivery and have the batteries repaired by professional equipment. This is one of the key factors restricting the large-scale replacement of lead-acid batteries by lithium batteries.

Third, lithium-ion batteries are too "delicate" to withstand the same challenges as lead-acid batteries.

In the process of use, the lithium electric car cannot withstand the impact of falling. Once the lithium battery is punctured or damaged by violent impact, the lithium battery may burn and explode. Lithium batteries have high requirements for chargers, and can not be charged by coin-operated chargers on the roadside as lead acid batteries. Once the current is too large, the breakdown of the protection plate in the lithium battery may cause combustion or even explosion.

In short, both the safety issue and the cost of lithium batteries are not conducive to its popularization. In view of the current technology, or lead-acid batteries mainly.
